The Root of Why

I was recently talking to coworker.

We were lamenting about a client who had an insight: “women don’t feel confident enough to speak up in the workplace” which birthed the idea to host classes for women to become more confident in the office.

I was struck by how blind that was.

The initial insight was obvious– “women don’t feel confident enough to speak up in the workplace” is likely true.

But why is it true?

It’s not because they don’t know how.

What would have happened if the team doing that research had asked “why” one more time?

Had gotten to the root of why

The answer wouldn’t be a workshop, that’s for sure.

Let’s embrace our inner 4 year old and make a habit of asking “why” more.
