It is often said that life is a journey, and for many, that journey involves seeking balance and meaning.
This is true for me, as I have spent over 50 years on a path of self-discovery, with the help of amazing mentors and coaches along the way.
As a Taoist, I have come to understand the significance of the yin-yang symbol, which has become a central part of my personal and professional life.
For those unfamiliar with yin-yang, it is a symbol of balance and harmony.
The black and white halves represent the opposing but complementary forces of the universe.
As light and dark, masculine and feminine.
Together, they create a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
But what does balance mean?
To me, balance is about accepting and learning from every experience, even the difficult ones.
It’s about recognizing that every situation has another side to it, even if we can’t see it at the time.
For instance, if we go through a challenging period in our lives, there is often a valuable lesson to learn from it.
We may not be able to see it right away, but with time and reflection, we can begin to understand its purpose.
Unfortunately, many people struggle to accept this idea.
They may be stuck in negative patterns of thinking or behavior, and find it difficult to see the good in a difficult situation.
As a business developer, I have seen this firsthand.
No matter how much guidance or advice I offer, some people cannot move forward until they learn the lesson they need to learn.
No one can do it alone, this lesson needs the help of a mentor or guide.
In my experience, the ideal mentor is someone with at least 50 years of life experience, and spiritual wisdom.
If you are in business then you need someone in the relevant industry as well.
This person can act as your subconscious mirror.
Reflecting on your strengths and weaknesses, and helping you to overcome obstacles and achieve your goals.
Of course, this process is not easy, nor is it cheap.
It requires a significant investment of time, energy, and money.
But the rewards can be immense.
Progress is measurable, both physical, emotional, mental, and financial growth.
And when we finally reach a place of balance and harmony, we can experience a sense of fulfillment and purpose that is priceless.
As for me, I am still learning and growing every day.
Even though I have been in business since I was 17 years old and have advised some of the most successful people in the world.
I am amazed by the complexity of it all.
But I have come to embrace the journey, knowing that it is the lessons we learn along the way that matter.
