You have to consider that different people watch / watched different sets of movies.

If you’re having different preferences than a certain group, you’re more likely to watch different movies than they do, and vice-versa.

So, it’s very likely that the movies you watch are not even rated by those people whose preferences you think are much more different than yours.

The experience referred to in the highlighted text is that of an individual for his own set of watched movies. Now, if you consider your own movie experience, and still don’t fit in into this pattern, then you must be among the exceptions.
