Uhm, you could have done some math before accepting the job and signing the apartment lease. You would then have discovered that a $1,466 monthly paycheck does not support the apartment/commuting choices you made. It was a loss-making venture from the start.

While I feel sympathic to a call for fair minimum wages, I agree with Kris that your had an entry level position that does not require college. So should one expect to support a independent household on a job like that? You could have chosen to first rent a room instead (and Craigs shows plenty options way below $1,000 in the Bay Area) and move once you had secured a better position.
