“Ignoring all the rest: You realise that you’ve just proven my point that Apple and Google are competitors, right?”

Not under any definition of competitor I’ve ever seen. How is that Apple and Google competing?

By arranging for their customers to have both available, Apple made their customers happy. By avoiding paying Google, they made themselves happy. But that isn’t competition.

“As for the rest: drivel. Maps was a disaster from the start. And it’s still kind of shit when compared to the competition.”

We weren’t discussing the quality of Apple’s maps app (which is superb compared to Google Maps).

We were discussing your claims of Apple required exclusivity and your assertion that Apple were not happy to let user use Google services on Apple devices. And I quote

“No they’re not happy to let them do that. They have too, because their users want it. Remember the Maps debacle?”

I’ve demonstrated that your claimed debacle has successfully avoided Apple needing to pay Google for Google Maps to be available on iOS, while making the service available to Apple users.

So it wasn’t a debacle.

I also pointed out that Apple have kept their users happy by having their own maps app that does turn by turn navigation while getting far more battery life than with Google maps. Another win for Apple’s users.

No competition. No exclusivity. No debacle.
