This story, as reported, simply doesn’t make sense.
In essence…
“Yesterday, around 12:00 PST, an unknown attacker exploited… By exploiting the same vulnerability, the white-hats hacked all of the remaining at-risk wallets and drained their accounts, effectively preventing the attacker… To prevent the hacker from robbing any more banks, the white-hats wrote software to rob all of the remaining banks…”
Sorry, but this just doesn’t work.
You’ve got to spot the attack, work out what is happening, work out how its being done, put together a team, work out how to tackle it, write software, and rob the remaining banks, not just in a few hours, but before the existing attacker can finish the job.
So I simply don’t believe the story.
You have to suspect that the white hats already new of the exploit.
And then all sorts of questions have to be asked.
Because, for example, returning the other $150m, is a perfect cover story if they also stole the original $31m.
