He doesn’t understand the scientific process because he seems to have an issue with how it came about that the existence of the newly discovered lesion and its possible etiology was published in two papers with Dr. Corkin as senior author on both — he seemed to have an issue with this, an issue with the process by which this happened. But that process is exactly science at work. People challenge one another, they discuss. But most importantly, they look at the evidence, so this is what was done here, and after looking at the evidence, they decided it was indeed there, and they acknowledged it was indeed there, but they couldn’t claim with confidence that it was caused by Scoville’s retractor. The second issue is that it’s simply illegal (see HIPAA with which which we all should be familiar) to reveal patient healthcare information, but which Dittrich seemed to insist that Dr. Corkin circumvent just for him, and reveal all sorts of private info, which he persisted in doing even when Dr. Corkin was on chemotherapy and very ill. Her voice sounded very weak (as in the recording). The fact that he has the gall to publish himself being this perennial pest says it all. Dittrich now has the distinction of being an author who writes books to stir up controversy rather than the much more difficult task of reporting interesting, purely factual accounts, as a trained investigative journalist would do.
