I remember meeting and watching Bill Campbell during the few months I spent at Claris Corporation in the late 1980s. Claris was in the process of acquiring the tiny company I worked for, and Bill was present at some of the meetings I attended. This was a long time ago and my contact with the man was minimal. Nonetheless I’m moved by Ben’s tribute because it aligns with the fleeting impression I formed of Bill back then: he had a warmth and disarming chumminess I had never encountered in the business world, and that I have rarely seen since. Those who knew him well surely will miss him, but might also ask what of his shining qualities they can manifest in their own lives and careers.
