Golden. Pure gold.
I love such projects — futuristic, somewhere utopian (in a good way), with a wonderful fundamental idea behind them.
But let’s move step by step. Hello everyone. Today I’m going to review a very promising project — Golden. Some introductory information.
Golden, founded in 2019, aims to generate and enhance human knowledge to accelerate discoveries and improve people’s education. The project’s database can be edited by anyone, but before an article released to the public, it goes through a process of approval and correction.
Not really. From a global perspective, Golden is similar to Wikipedia, but as you know, the devil is in details.
Golden’s mission is to collect, organize and make known to the general public more than 10 billion of topics in an accessible form, presented on comprehensively written in a neutral style topic pages.
An abundance of knowledge is available to us through the Internet, but navigating through the cacophony of formats, designs, sources, and standards is difficult. Google, Wikipedia, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Quora, StackExchange, Github, etc. are our favorite places to find information. However, the knowledge reference products in the market today fall short of mapping, in a highly organized way, everything we collectively know as a human society and what exists on the web.
Indeed, it is difficult to find comprehensive information about some queries: Simple Agreement for Future Tokens, cryptocurrency hedge funds, quantum artificial life, constructor theory and much more. I haven’t even heard of many of the above! Golden helps to remove this barrier. Someone will say: “Why should I personally learn all this?” Yes, this information is for a small group of people, but you need to understand that there is also a lack of usefull, structured information about crypto. Wikipedia can’t help you here. But Golden can.
In this current age, it is possible and necessary to systematically display everything that exists and to bring together academical articles, documentaries, videos, podcasts, additional literature, manuals, and metadata related to these topics.
Unfortunately, a lot of pages have been removed from Wikipedia because they don’t meet the site’s notoriety standard (SV Angel, Lisk, Urbit). However, this does not apply only to company pages. There are also no relevant technologies, projects, products, theoretical components and academical ideas.
Wikipedia currently has 5.8 million articles in English, and Google had 1 billion objects (200 times more than Wikipedia). Golden estimates that the number of objects that needed to be covered is 1,000 times greater than what Wikipedia has today. This is a really difficult challenge!
We live in an age of extreme niches, an age when validation and completeness is more important than notability. Golden encyclopedia doesn’t have limited shelf space —everything that exists will be mapped eventually.
From the beginning, Golden has been designed to encourage a deep and broad view of knowledge. If an extremely niche topic is valuable for only a small group of people and makes a positive contribution to society, it will find its place on Golden. Some of Golden’s initial focus areas will aim on core topics in science, technology, and business, as well as cutting-edge research in these areas.
Golden aims to simplify the process of editing and approving articles. They created a WYSIWYG editor to lower the barrier to entry and reach more people around the world.
Golden has made a few important changes that will make editor’s life much more easier: You can simply highlight any claim and add a citation that is evidence to support that claim. All of these citations can then be easily viewed and examined by anyone viewing the article on Golden. And this is just one of many examples.
Golden created a system called “AI Suggestions” that creates modular pieces of machine learning results, suggesting improvements that can be made to content with a simple “yes”, “no”, or “skip”. There is a possibility of atomic editing on your phone, which should bring a positive element to this process. Golden AI is constantly working to consolidate knowledge in Golden and find resources relevant to each page of an object by scanning the web.
Thematic pages on Golden will be absolutely free for an average user. However, the extensive knowledge base and query capabilities mean that the project can provide a range of tools and services that will benefit to companies and organizations. To access these services, you will need to purchase a paid subscription.
Golden offers hundreds of other usefull features for easy application use, convenient editing and integration of all the disparate knowledge of mankind into a common unit.
The project is at the early stage of development. So far, there is no whitepaper been made. Anyone who wants to “touch” the project, please register on their website and learn all its functionality.
In my article, I tried to tell in a clear way, what Golden is and what makes it unique. If you need more information about the project, you can read their article.
I am sure that this is not my last article about the project. See you soon!
