Carmageddon is Coming
Angus Hervey

There’s still a lot of controversy on the impact of autonomous vehicles on traffic. MaaS is going to require a place for all of those vehicles to go when they are not in use, and if as some articles I have read claim, the end result is that they end up driving in circles waiting for their next ride, the impact on traffic congestion and the environment is going to be disastrous. Even if they circle periodically, they will eventually need to park somewhere. People generally don’t mind storing personal vehicles that they own at their homes, but have you started to conceive of the impact of all of those residential parking spaces being eliminated? Unfortunately (in the USA at least), we are giving absolutely zero consideration to mass transit, which would work beautifully in concert with autonomous vehicles.
