UX Under a Microscope
UX is incredibly important. We already know this. But to me, it’s even more obvious how important it is now.
During this pandemic, most people have had to shift or change their lives in some manner, and for many, that means going online more often. More people are learning, working, ordering food and supplies, and even just communicating with friends and family online. Yes, I know, most people were already doing most of these things, but at this moment in time, it’s become crucial and puts UX under a microscope. Now more than ever people should be able to turn to their devices and trust that they will have a delightful and effortless and user-friendly experience. There is enough stress and anxiety surrounding what is happening in the world and the last thing someone wants is to log in to their food delivery app and have complications (this happened for my mom earlier today).
Designers should continue to strive for excellence when creating products, however, this pandemic gives us a new perspective. We should make sure we are considering all potential users, and not just the ones who we know will use the product on a day-to-day basis. We should always seek to understand what a user might be going through when they are using a product, pandemic or not. And lastly, we should continue to empathize with these users so that they feel their needs are met and they accomplish what they intend to with ease.
