This blog continues my reminiscence of the games I played on the PSP as a child. If you haven’t seen the first part, do check it out here.

So, in the previous part, I wrote about the Ben 10 games I had played on the console. Now, let us check some of the other games cool games I have played, starting with GTA.

  1. GTA: Vice City Stories

GTA Vice City was one of the best GTA games made to date and Rockstar Games decided to create a new story based on the same location for PSP. The game had a very good story based on Victor Vance, the brother of Lance Vance, who was an antagonist in GTA Vice City. The game takes place in 1984, two years before Vice City.

In my opinion, this game was better than Vice City in terms of gameplay. There were many new vehicles, weapons and side missions to be done here. We had to run our own business to generate weekly income. We had to build and protect our empire at any cost from other gangs.

It was much better to allow the protagonist to swim in water unlike Vice City, where Tommy drowns in the water instantly.

In this game, the second island is kept locked until a particular mission is played. As I had not played Vice City before, this made me curious about what was present on the other island and made me search for tricks to go on to the other side. Later, I completed the mission and unlocked the other island as well. We were also allowed to fly Choppers and ride jet skis after the mission.

It was indeed a great game overall and the best GTA game made for the console.

2. GTA: Liberty City Stories

This game, unfortunately, was not well received by the fans. This is because the game lagged behind the interesting stories and main missions as in VC stories. I too played this after playing VC stories and was not very attracted to this one.

Most of the missions only had us driving around the city and doing not-so-serious stuff such as collecting evidence, delivering packages and racing.

Two good aspects of the game were its map and the side missions. The map of this game is much bigger than Vice City with three large islands. The map depicts both the city and the countryside as in the modern GTA games. The third island was created like a hill station. Yet, for some reason, the entire game had a very dark tone. We couldn’t see much light even during the day. Not many people were intrigued by this as they were by the vibrance in GTA Vice City.

There were a lot of side missions to play. Here is a list of my favourites

  • Noodle Punk: Deliver noodles for Punk Noodles.
  • Bike Salesman: Test drive bikes for customers in Hogs ’n’ Cogs.
  • Car Salesman: Test drive cars for customers in Capital Autos.
  • See the Sight Before Your Flight: Drive tourists to Liberty City landmarks and take their photos within a time limit.
  • Car-crazy Car Giveaway: Deliver a list of 16 vehicles to Love Media Building.

In conclusion, although I did not spend much time in this game, it was still a good game for free roam. A better story and main missions would have turned this into a gem.

3. Sonic Rivals 2

This one is not as adventurous as the rest of them, yet I wasted hours playing this one trying to complete the same story with all the characters. There are eight characters in the game each with their own signature move. The story is to be played with a pair of characters. The following list shows the pairs in the game along with their signature moves.

  • Sonic — Sonic Boom & Tails — Tail Copter
  • Knuckles — Knuckle Slam & Rouge — Bat Guard
  • Shadow — Chaos Control & Metal Sonic — Copycat
  • Silver — ESP & Espio — Chroma Camo
The 4 teams in story mode

The chaos control and ESP were my favourites. Both of them almost stop the opponent in the race. Metal Sonic’s copycat was also good as we can copy the signature of the opponent and use different signatures throughout the story.

The game also featured six different zones, each with a unique theme.

  1. Blue Coast
  2. Sunset Forest
  3. Neon Palace
  4. Frontier Canyon
  5. Mystic Haunt
  6. Chaotic inferno

Each zone has a couple of race battles either against an opponent or time, a one-on-one battle, and a boss fight against Eggman. There are a variety of one-on-one battles such as the knockouts (best of 1,3 or 5) and Capture the Choas. Every zone culminates in a thrilling boss fight showcasing Eggman’s mastery of mechanized warfare. Each battle features unique machines tailored to the zone’s theme, ensuring fresh challenges and surprises.

The only demerit in the game is that we feel like playing the same levels repeatedly with all eight characters. They could have been tailored specifically for every one of them. Apart from that, it was good.

Other games

As this part is also growing into a long one, I will continue the rest in the next one where I will talk about the most famous God of War exclusives and Call of Duty. Don’t forget to check it out.
