Tips for improving a LinkedIn profile
LinkedIn, what is it?
Before getting to the heart of the matter, a review of the history of this professional social network is useful to better understand its purpose. Created in 2003, LinkedIn aims to facilitate contact between professionals. LinkedIn is now one of the most popular social platforms.
LinkedIn differs from Facebook since it is exclusively oriented around professional experiences. It allows its users to be connected and share content with other professionals, such as colleagues, potential employers, partners, and new employees.
This social network can be a fantastic marketing tool for any business.

Tips for improving a LinkedIn profile
1 — Customize the URL of a public profile
Customizing the URL helps make a public personal profile more professional (and much easier to share). Instead of a URL ending with a bunch of indigestible numbers, it is possible to obtain a clear and simple address. The customization of the URL of a public profile is accessible directly from the page. Just click on the profile picture icon, at the top right of the home page, select “View profile” then head to the “Edit public profile and URL” module, top right. To learn more about it, this LinkedIn page is very informative.
2 — Add a photo to the background of a LinkedIn profile
In June 2014, LinkedIn finally joined the cover photo craze and offered its users the option of displaying a photo in the background of their personal profiles. This new feature allows you to give more personality to a profile. However, keep in mind that LinkedIn is a professional social network. The choice of this visual is therefore made accordingly. To put a photo in the background of a profile, go to their profile, click on the camera-shaped icon at the top right of the background image, then on the “Change profile background” button. Then simply download the new photo, taking care to respect the resolution of 1584 x 396 pixels in order to obtain a quality rendering. Accepted files are .jpg or .png with a size less than or equal to 8 MB.
3 — Create a profile badge for a personal website or blog
Any owner of a website or a blog can have an interest in promoting his presence on LinkedIn and thus contribute to developing a quality professional network. To do this, simply add a badge that redirects directly to the desired LinkedIn public profile. LinkedIn offers different badge models and it is possible to configure them by going to your profile, clicking on “Edit public profile and URL” and then on “Create a badge”, at the bottom right of the page.
4 — Optimize the clickable text of the links of a blog or website on a profile
To increase the number of clicks on the links of a website, it is advisable to use more catchy terms than those of the standard texts proposed by LinkedIn. Instead of using the default “personal website” template, it is advisable to modify it and thus make the links more attractive to people viewing a LinkedIn profile. If the approach is to include a link to a blog, you should avoid choosing the standard LinkedIn text, “Blog”. It’s best to personalize it with keywords that relate to the topic of the blog, like in this example: “Blog Marketing from HubSpot.” Each profile can contain up to three links. To personalize them, you have to go to your profile, click on the “Contact details” section, and then on the pencil icon. In the drop-down menu located next to the URL section of the website, it is then necessary to choose the option “Other”.
5 — Add a voice recording to a LinkedIn profile
LinkedIn allows you to add a 10-second voice recording to a profile. Initially deployed so that users could specify how their name is pronounced, this feature is regularly used to personalize a profile. To activate it, you have to go to your profile via the LinkedIn mobile application. It is then necessary to click on the icon in the shape of a pencil and then on “Add the pronunciation of the name”.
