5 Random Acts of Kindness
Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.
One of the most primitive traits of human kind is compassion. Being kind and good towards others doesn’t take anything away, rather it brings people closer. It is the act that keeps you satisfied with yourself. An act which is always counted, though it be small.
To see what kindness can do, or how it can have a profound effect over the livelihoods of others, I set my selves the task to do five different and random acts of kindness within a 24 hour period.
First and foremost, I decided to start my day with making up my bed. Doing so made me realize that for the past, I don’t know how many, couple of years I had not been making my bed in the morning. It is one of the most difficult tasks to do right away in the morning when you’re contemplating on whether you should set out of your bed or not. Nonetheless, it is also the most productive.
Another thing that I had done today was to provide cold drinking water to the traffic policeman. It was good to see him smile but sad when he complained that it never happens oftenly. I knew bringing a smile to his face was inevitable by this act of kindness. I also helped my sister do the dishes and the dusting. It was good to see her taking a break from these very mundane tasks that everyone, or maybe just I, hate to do.
I even got the chance to meet a child who was planning to quit his studies and start working at this very young age. I persuaded him not to do so and instead being a positive role model for other kids. When, later, I was with my friends, a friend of mine was constantly being a butt of a joke. This poor guy didn’t know how to defend so I changed the course of our conversation just for his sake.
In the end I believe that kindness is perpetual. It is definitely something we need to distract ourselves from the fast moving, ruthless world of today.
