Great adverts need to be better than great — And Mercedes-Benz nailed this one…

In todays hyper connected world adverts need to be better than good. Not everyone can hit the heights of Red Bull’s space jump. So with this in mind I wanted to highlight an ad that is not just good. It is clever and engaging. I’m not going to say that you should watch it, but if you have a minute to spare it is worth watching.

Why?

(1) Mercedes has something new in this advert. Actually, it has more than that but you will need to watch the video to see what it is.

(2) It kept me engaged for more than 5 seconds (the average view time before someone drops off a video. Note, not an advert. That drop off rate is even faster.)

Why does this ad matter to your newsfeed? My view is that this shows premium brands need to do more that just putting up videos on Youtube, linking them from your web site and hoping that some fans watch it. This is not a “how to create an awesome video on social media.” Its just a pointer in the right direction.
