In her absolutely fascinating book Being Wrong, Kathryn Schultz notes the propensity of people to hold on to their worldview at all costs. Feeling right is much more important to people than being correct. The proliferation of pesudo-journalism is, from my perspective, a consequence of that desire paired with political tribalism. More and more it seems that critical thinking is going straight out the window.
