Never Underestimate the small stuff

I have been doing a lot of reading lately on the idea that happiness is not found in the major events of our life but rather in the small moments. Yes, you have heard this before. We have all heard it but how much of this do you incorporate into your daily life? We know not to sweat the small stuff. We know that we should be grateful for the little things. Still, we also know we should mediate daily and eat clean. It sounds good on paper but the actual practice can seem unrealistic. The truth is, the simple act of finding joy in your everyday tasks is not only simple but so good for you. Try to wash the dishes, water the plants and mop the floor with the knowledge and gratitude that your body is capable of the movement needed to perform these tasks. Think about the freedom you have to complete these jobs and allow yourself to recognize the joy in the familiarity. Not sweating the small stuff is a step in the right direction but you have to think about it deeper. The small stuff is the stuff of life. It is in these moments of reading your child’s nightly story or creating a warm meal for your family that memories are made. Enjoy your morning coffee instead of tossing it into a to go mug and slamming it down in traffic. The taste, the feel, the smell of everything around you is opportunity for a joyful pause. See your world and know that in that moment you are truly thankful for the opportunity.
