I love reading your aunt’s response and your response to her response! Awesome. I love your writing and the points you are making. You both have valid points. You also make an excellent comparison to patriarchy, which I can relate to as a female who has experienced sexism all my life (and in the most educated circles!) It is indeed hard for us white liberals to admit to our own racism and how privileged we really are. I hope we can use our white privilege to help make a difference. It’s sad that it takes tragedy and some distinctive videos to wake a lot of us up.
