My first time with sketchnotes

Sketchnotes seem to be popular — I realised this by seeing a great number of results in Google — but I’ve never done any by myself before. In fact, I’ve never liked making notes by hand, because, due to a lack of time and proper planning, they quite often end up pretty messy. I also don’t think my handwriting is the best — you’ll find out about it pretty soon. Most days, I make notes on my mobile or laptop, as I find it very convenient, so I’m not so used to doing that by hand. I could quickly notice that when I’ve started the task to make sketchnotes based on this video:

At first, I wanted to go “ninja” and started making notes while watching the video. This was really hard as I had no idea how to plan my content. The tips that were in “The Sketchnote Handbook” were useful but I also felt that it really depends on what I’m making my notes of.

My first sketch wasn’t really good and I wasn’t happy about the result. I decided to re-draw it and somehow systemise my thoughts a bit more. I was a little surprised that the second version wasn’t that different in terms of structure than the first one. It was definitely more visually appealing though! I would still change some things in the version that you see below, but I decided to keep it like it is for now. Also, I’ve adjusted my sketchnotes a bit in Photoshop to correct the mistakes and improve contrast.

So, here are my sketchnotes:

To summarise the challenge

Even though I’m still a fan of making notes on my phone, I will try to do sketch notes as well and I believe that the more I practice the better they will be!
