Since 2012, I have been immersed in the world of South Indian cinema. Among all the regional films, Malayalam movies have captivated me the most. The reason is simple: they skillfully depict real-life scenarios on the silver screen. Watching these films piqued my curiosity about the people, their lives, and the enchanting locales they call home.

I often found myself daydreaming about God’s Own Country, as Kerala is affectionately known. Its lush green landscapes, serene backwaters, and mist-kissed hills seemed like a distant paradise waiting to be explored. And then, just a few days ago, my dream transformed into reality.

I stepped foot into Kerala, breathing in the fragrant air, feeling the warmth of its sun-kissed beaches, and marveling at the intricate dance of coconut palms. The journey had begun, and I was ready to unravel the secrets of this beautiful land — one frame at a time.

Kerala!!!

Welcome to God’s Own Country, where every moment feels like a scene from a captivating movie. 🌴🎬🌟

Upon arriving at Cochin International Airport, I swiftly checked into a hotel that I had pre-booked online. With time constraints in mind, I made a decision: tomorrow, I would explore the enchanting hill station of Munnar. Often referred to as the “Kashmir of South India,” Munnar promised mist-kissed hills, lush tea plantations, and a serene escape from the everyday hustle.

To ensure a seamless journey, I had already secured a car for the entirety of my trip. The road beckoned, and I was ready to unravel the magic of Munnar — one winding curve at a time. 🌿🚗🌄

On the following day, despite some unforeseen circumstances, I embarked on my journey toward Munnar. As the clock struck noon, I hit the road, eager to explore the lush landscapes that awaited me.

The winding path led me deeper into nature’s embrace. With each passing mile, the surroundings transformed into a vibrant tapestry of emerald green. The hills stood tall, their contours inviting me to unravel their secrets. Munnar was calling, and I was ready to heed its summons.

The drive from Cochin to Munnar stretched across approximately four hours. Along the way, I encountered waterfalls, their rocky beds echoing the whispers of seasons past. Yet, the summer sun had left them parched and silent — a mere memory of their grandeur during monsoons.

Amidst this journey, I stumbled upon a hidden gem: a spice and medicinal plants garden. Munnar’s reputation for these aromatic treasures preceded it, and I couldn’t resist exploring further. The air was infused with fragrant notes — cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves danced around me. I marveled at the healing properties of these plants, their leaves and roots promising wellness and vitality.

As I continued my drive, the anticipation grew. Munnar, with its mist-kissed hills and tea-clad slopes, awaited my arrival. The journey was as much a part of the adventure as the destination itself. And so, I drove on, weaving through the landscape, my heart echoing the rhythm of the road.

Munnar’s beauty unfolds as you explore. Most sightseeing spots lie along a scenic route, starting with Photo Point — a free haven for photographers and nature lovers. Here, rolling Nilgiri hills blanketed with emerald tea plantations create a captivating vista, begging to be captured on camera.

Towering next was the Mattupetty Dam, a marvel of engineering that harnesses hydropower while framing breathtaking vistas. The dam’s constant water source teems with life, attracting diverse birdlife and even wild animals. Here, visitors can enjoy scenic boat rides on the lake, adding another layer to Mattupetty’s charm.

Then I visited another beautiful place named Kundala Lake which has been created on the same purpose as Mattupetty dam. It lies at an altitude of 1700 meters above sea level. The lake is surrounded by rolling tea plantations, creating a tranquil ambiance which offers breathtaking views of the nearby hills and valleys. The area is adorned with Cherry Blossom trees, which bloom twice a year, adding to its charm.

Besides all these, there is Eravikkulam National Park in Munnar which was closed for visitor due to mating season for animals. Visitors can also enjoy elephant safari, horse riding, explore rose garden, botanical garden, hiking in Munnar.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, I sat by the window, reflecting on my days in Munnar. The mist-kissed hills, the symphony of tea leaves rustling, and the warmth of the locals — all etched in my heart forever.

Munnar had woven its magic — the kind that lingers even after you’ve left. The camera had captured frames, but my soul had captured memories. I had sipped chai with the mountains, danced with the monsoons, and whispered secrets to the wind.

And so, as I bid farewell to this “Kashmir of South India,” I carried a piece of Munnar within me. The rolling valleys, the scent of cardamom, and the promise of Neelakurinji blooms — they would stay with me, forever intertwined with my wanderlust.

And so, dear reader, if ever you find yourself in the embrace of Munnar, let it seep into your soul. Let the mist kiss your cheeks, let the hills whisper their secrets, and let the tea leaves tell stories of resilience and beauty.

Until we meet again, Munnar — thank you for the memories. 🌿📸🌟

Bidding farewell to Munnar’s emerald embrace, we set course for Alleppey, the Venice of the East. Imagine a tapestry woven with glistening backwaters, fringed by lush palm groves. Here, ancient houseboats, like gentle giants, navigate a labyrinth of waterways, whispering tales of Kerala’s rich history.
