“Successful Efforts for Education of Slums’ kids”
So now it’s been more than 2 weeks since my group members and I started to work on our mega project to counsel the people living in slums to send their kids to school so that they may be able to improve their lifestyle as well as contribute to the development of our country.
As we were working in collaboration with an organization “SKZ-PEFD” and were asked to collect the data of the kids who were of school-going age. So we went to our targeted area, visited about 100 slums and collected data from parents by asking them the following questions:
- How many kids you have?
- What are their names and ages?
- Are the kids of age above 4 going to school or not?
- Why do you not send them to school?
After we had got answers to these questions by them, we found that some of the kids were already going to school and we appreciated them a lot as well as assured them that their kids would help them improve their lifestyle.
We also went for teaching at the slum school.
According to collected data, the majority of the kids were not going to school. Some of them did not go due to residing at large distance from school and the others were not educating themselves simply due to the unawareness of their parents about importance of education. So we spent time to elaborate how they could spend better lives and earn more if they start educating their kids today. We also told them there is a slum scool where teachers teach and provide books and stationery free of cost and that school is not too far from their homes so they can send their kids accompanying with their neighbour kids who already go to the slum school daily.
Listening to bebefits of education, they strongly agreed to send their kids to school and made us feel that our efforts will be proved fruitful IN SHAA-ALLAH.
Now our target for the next 2 weeks is to visit that slum school and see if all the kids (whose parents showed consent to send them school) are coming to school or not. And if the kids are not present there, we will visit their homes again to discover the reason behind their absence from school and try our best to resolve that issue through counselling or other means. Furthermore, we shall feel obliged to provide teaching services at the slum school if required.
