I try to cook all my meals at home but every now and then I resort to cooking the same meals every night. Cooking is fun for the most part, but when you have to cook every day for every meal, it can become a chore. Then I start to crave foods from my favorite restaurants.

But while cooking can start to feel boring and bland, there are some ways to spice up your dishes so you’re not suffering from boiled vegetables and baked chicken breasts every night (my life).

Try New Recipes

A great way to spice up your home cooking is to try new recipes. Get on Pinterest or Google and start looking up fun recipes you’ve never tried before. There are also lots of simple recipes out there if you don’t want to spend too much effort. Try exploring recipes in different cuisines, or recipes that use different spices than from what you’re used to.

Use Sauces

Sometimes I cheat a little and buy pre-made sauces or marinades from the store. That way I don’t have to worry about creating the flavors from scratch. There are so many different sauces you can buy, and a lot of them taste really good. Sauces can turn boring, bland food into something different and exciting for your taste buds.

Spice Things Up With Spices

Like sauces, spices can also make a huge difference in your cooking with little effort. If you’re hesitant about which spices go together, you can also get pre-mixed spices. For example, there are spices specifically made for vegetables or seafood. Adding different spices can make your food more exciting rather than just salt and pepper.

Try Different Cooking Methods

I tend to do a lot of baking when I am lazy. I put everything into the oven from meat to vegetables. However, a great way to spice things up is to use different cooking methods. Maybe instead of boiling vegetables, you can try a stir fry. Instead of sticking meat in the oven, you can try grilling. You can even get fancier like trying sous vide or searing your food with a blow torch (be careful with this one). There are a lot of fun cooking methods to try that aren’t necessarily more difficult and can make a big difference to your meal.

Use Fresh Herbs or Ingredients

Using fresh herbs or ingredients can make a big difference in how your food tastes. Fresher herbs tend to be more fragrant and flavorful than dried ones. You can buy fresh herbs at the store or consider growing some of your own herbs or vegetables so they’re readily accessible.

Home meals don’t have to be bland or boring. They also don’t have to be overly complicated to taste good. There are many simple things that you can do to mix things up, from trying different cooking methods to new sauces.
