Eternal sunshine of spotless mind

Joel and Clamentine were sitting in the purple darkness of the setting sun. He gazed at the pale blue fathomless ocean. He wished to visit the merging point of the ocean bed and the dome of the spotless sky.

Clementine took a piece of chicken from Joel’s plate. He wondered how perfectly her blue menace hair color matched with the Glaucous shaded sweatshirt, which she was wearing. Clementine glanced at him, passing him a smile, observing the reddish shade of his stubborn beard.

There were many families enjoying the cool evening on the beach, staring at the setting sun. Children playing in the sand, without a care in the world. Lovers holding each other in their arms, wishing that the time would stop and they could be in this moment forever.

Behind Joel and Clamentine there was a ramshackle wooden house. It’s walls were painted white with green color terrace. There was a beautiful lawn in front of the house, with the bed of green grass and pink lilies on the borders.

“ Do you remember this is the same place where we met for the first time?”, said Joel still staring at the ocean.

“ Yup! I do. I came to sit right next to you, on the staircase and you offered me the chicken”

“Actually, I didn’t offer. You just asked for the leg piece and before I could reply, you took it away”, he giggled.

“Oh! I am sorry. I tend to get rude when I am hungry.” Clementine suddenly felt guilty and ashamed, remembering what had actually happened.

“ No, no. It was fine. I found it..emm.. I found it intimate. You didn’t care for my reply. It was as if we were already two lovers, knowing what the other person was thinking.”

Suddenly the wall of the house started to break. The terrace came cascading down on the ground. The lawn was set on fire. The green grass and pink lilies turned into ashes. Everything started to fade. The laugh of the kids, the roar of the ocean, the chirping of the birds, the whispers of the couples, every sound became distorted. And within few seconds every human soul started to vanish one at a time.

Gloomy silence took over the whole place and the only sound that could be heard was, of the burning lawn and the breaking house.

“ Why did you do this Joel?” Tears rolled out of her teak brown eyes.

Joel got irritated and replied rudely, “It was you who did this first.”

“ I know. I know! But Joel you remember me. I tend to get so damn impulsive. And you could have been the bigger man here.” Clementine broke down completely and couldn’t stop crying.

The sun from the sky vanished. But the orange shade of it’s rays still lingered around the sky.

“Joel, they are erasing me from your memory. Just like they erased you from mine. You won’t remember me when you will wake up. It’s going to be over. What are we going to do?”

Joel smiled at Clementine.

“ We will enjoy whatever time we are left with”, he replied.

And amid the disappearance of things and appearance of the chaos, both of them sat together, holding hands, waiting to be faded into the thin air.

Some stories are half written.

Incomplete.

Finished, but without an ending.
