Environmental crisis defeat: what if we can't revert this mess?
Let's find a way back to love, and not act out of fear.

Forest fires, floods, melting icebergs. Constant reminders of the environmental collapse we are about to face if we don’t completely transform the way we live. At the same time that more people turn vegan, travel less by plane, and are more mindful about their consumption, I also notice more friends getting into a state of total skepticism.
The hole is too deep, our small actions cannot revert this. Game over.
These are conscious people. People who bike to work, don't buy plastic bags, and are conscious about their choices. But they are not feeling well. They are feeling stressed, hopeless. They discuss about the subject in agony, and start wondering why work so hard for making things better if there’s no way to fix it?
Earth will recover on its own, maybe it is just better we disappear.
Maybe we cannot fix it. Maybe we can. I cannot say much about that. Regardless, understanding how our consumption culture impacts negatively the planet and correcting our course of action is relevant even if it does not ensure our survival as a species.
The reason why is the most basic one: love.
If we go to a beach where many people are littering, I hope we have our hearts in the right place to not do the same. We are guests on this beautiful planet and out of respect, out of love for our host, we take care of it. We aim at leaving it better than we found it.
Unfortunately, as we are reaching (or have already reached) a point of no return in terms of calamity, we start “taking care” of Earth out of fear of what can happen. Because our actions come from a place of fear, we get stressed, upset, anxious, depressed, angry. After many stressful episodes, we get depleted and accept defeat.
We can reframe our actions and do them out of love. Even if there was no crisis, we would still not be taking care of nature good enough. Find that place within that loves a good walk in the park, a swim on the lake, a bouquet of flowers, the taste of fresh fruits, the sound of birds singing, the wind blowing on your face. When we take environmentally responsible actions, what we are doing is saying thank you for all these things. An act of love for nature, who has never asked us for anything but has given us so much.
Earth is an endless pot of unconditional love. No matter how we have treated it, we keep on receiving its gifts, in the shape of the water we drink, the air we breathe, the food we eat. As our planet goes through a crossroad, it gives us a chance of aligning our hearts and permeate our choices and actions with love. Find that place within that is connected to the world around you, to the people who produced your clothes and your food. It is time to expand, not to contract.
If we do this out of fear, we can burn out. Let our efforts be out of love. Let us expand as humans as we face this crisis. Even if we do not make it. Love is an end in itself. At the end of the day, is there any better reason to do anything than out of love?
