I sometimes take some days off social media (aka Facebook) to focus and get shit done. One thing that beats me every time I do that is the kind of notifications Facebook starts sending me to very unsuccessfully try to get me back.

After a few days not logging in, when I get back I see loads of notifications like “person X has just done a new post” where person X is always a Facebook friend who I have not interacted in ages and does not even appear in my timeline. Someone Facebook definitely knows I don’t give a damn. Taken the number of people I actually interact with on Facebook and that are constantly generating content, why is Facebook generating completely irrelevant notifications to get me back? Or is it simply that they do not really have a low engagement problem so they just don’t even give a damn about developing a proper engagement functionality for low engagement users? I can’t hold myself but laugh at these notifications.
