I have discovered the meaning of life

This is a secret blog and if you are reading it you should know a few things:

  1. I moisturise like Patrick Bateman.
  2. I dictate these blogs to Dennis, my PA, who types them out.
  3. I have discovered the meaning of life.

Today I will discuss 3.

Hello again.

So what is the answer?

The answer, as Douglas Adams reveals in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, is 42:

“The Answer to the Great Question… Of Life, the Universe and Everything… Is… Forty-two,’ said Deep Thought, with infinite majesty and calm.”

“Forty-two!” yelled Loonquawl. “Is that all you’ve got to show for seven and a half million years’ work?”
“I checked it very thoroughly,” said the computer, “and that quite definitely is the answer. I think the problem, to be quite honest with you, is that you’ve never actually known what the question is.”

Cryptic right?

Not any longer. For I have discovered the true meaning of this famous answer.

It is wordplay, a pun on the word FORTITUDE.

What does fortitude mean?

Fortitude means courage in pain or adversity.

i.e ‘she endured her illness with great fortitude’

synonyms: courage, bravery, strength of mind, strength of character, moral strength, toughness of spirit, firmness of purpose, strong-mindedness, resilience, backbone, spine, mettle, spirit, nerve, pluck, pluckiness, doughtiness, fearlessness, valour, intrepidity, stout-heartedness, endurance

antonym: faint-heartedness
