I absolutely agree with the spirit of the article. There is an excess of material out there. How does one separate the wheat from the chaff? I love the independence of publishing my own book on my terms. That being said, I find it exhausting to keep waving at the crowd of readers, seeking attention for my work. I am so grateful that writing is a passion and not my profession. The pressure of earning an income from writing would have probably silenced me forever. There are way too many independent books out there for readers to decide which ones are worth their time. Free, 99c, price cuts have lost their appeal. The barrage has created desensitisation and the system had its benefits but it is far from flawless.
