Ode to George Bernard Shaw

a found poem from Blake Lively’s bee attack as recounted on Preserve.us (no longer available), August 28, 2014

an electric shock of energy
(I was shaken)

why did it feel like agony
(I was swollen)

melting, melting, burning, melting
(I had to stop)

running at top speed
a terrible sound
from my very own mouth
piercing the air

but in my mind–dolls, candy drops, baby’s breath
a flower interpretation
invisible votives that marked so many of my earlier years
(I will never, ever grow up)
