WHEN CHRISTMAS GOT SHOWY

When Christmas got showy

While up went our fancy light and stars

With decor and twinkle our tree tops made bonny

Homes smelled of bakes and cookies jammed jars

When Christmas got showy

And carolers through the city strummed their guitars

While in harmony the choir sang “O Come Ye, O Come Ye”

And all our wise kin pulled in home from afar

But Christmas really didn't get showy

No! Barely did it our air brighten up,

The jingly music and sparkling stars;

While to bed someone went hungry!

But when my time I gave to that friend so lonely

My ear I lent a troubled mind to empty

Some kind word, good cheer, that lightened up my neighbours fears

Of uncertain tomorrows which a baby, once, was born to clear!

My all if not give, my best I live

Well that’s when Christ-in us and Christ-mas really got showy!
