a wave of grief washes over as she realizes she is alone
completely alone and shaking
she glances downward at her hands
she feels a soft burning, a warmth there on her palms
just as if a bolt of lightning had struck her

where am I?

her eyes open, and for the first time she sees light
this new world is lighter than the last as she takes it all in

bright fluorescent water unlinke any she has seen emerges from the rocks
below in the valley, a pool seems to light the ground
life looks sturdy here, whole and constant and unknown

maybe this is home

she peers between the branches of an old tree

what is moving out there?
