Day 10 — #writeingrief

Evening falling — a soft lamenting
As the sun sets behind me and
The mountains before me change colors,
Orange to pink to a deeper purple.
Bruises against a darkening sky.

As my heart drops into a gap
Crushed between mountains,
Masses of darkening thoughts,
Jagged edges ripping at the sky.
I pour myself another glass.

Evening falling, and I fall with it.
Not sure why today was harder
Than yesterday or what pushed me
Into this crevasse of bad feelings.
I pour more wine to understand.

Thick swirls of panic rise,
Storms railing and howling,
I’m bruised from the inside out.
Then the sky splits with rain,
Washing over the desert and me,
Watering down another glass of wine.
