Judging by the photo you chose you seem to be assuming that the reason police are a terrified bundle of nerves and brutal is that the public don’t like them. Can you see that that can be a circular argument? Feuds tend to escalate until someone decides they don’t want any more violence. Do you think people would still dislike police if they were being honest? I think the public would like to see some gesture of good faith.
