Everything I write is humor/satire, and I oppose my editors putting signs on my pieces announcing, this is satire!

You nailed it exactly. The reason Jonathan Swift “A Modest Proposal” became such a classic, and the standard for effective satire writing, is because people thought he was serious. It had a historic impact because of that, and it was much more impactful than had he written an editorial in defense of children.

So, I’m sticking with the form. Not only because I hope to have an impact on the current political discourse in some small way, but because it is so much fun.
