Sibling Rivalry, but a Pure Joy to Watch. The Williams Sisters Duke it Out as Serena Williams reaches #23 in the Australian Open

If you weren’t in Melbourne Australia to witness greatness, one could only hope your alarm clocks were set around the world to watch two of the best women in tennis history face off. Serena Williams (35) and Venus Williams (36) are like fine wine…getting better with age. The two sisters were the oldest women to reach an Australian Open Final in history. Don’t be fooled by age, because what was witnessed tonight was the pure dominance of Serena as she wins her 23 Grand Slam Title in open era history. With this win she passes the great Steffi Graf (22) and stands just one spot behind Margaret Court with the most women Grand Slam titles at 24. Court who was in attendance to see little sister beat big sister in straight sets 6–4, 6–4. Early in the match Venus Williams was able to break Serena’s serve to take a 3–2 lead. It was evident early on the Serena was nervous appearing to be a little stiff in her foot work as Venus was able to drop several corner returns and forehand winners for points. Venus Williams with seven Grand Slam titles of her own still stood out in this loss. The fact that having battled an auto immune disease to reach a final since 2009 was remarkable. In this match, you didn’t see a woman who was at the end of her career. This tournament was a rejuvenation for Venus. Even in defeat, the beautiful smile & pure joy in the way Venus Williams spoke about her sister was a site to see. “this is my sister yal, she is amazing”. Amazing Serena is and just as gracious was Serena in speaking of her sister & best friend. “It didn’t matter who won, it was just an inspiration for us to show never give up”. Serena Williams is showing that she is elevating her game showing the hunger after losing last year in the US Open. However, the only downside is any tournament Venus enters barring injury she will have to beat her sister in order to hoist the trophy. You see Serena Williams is the G.O.A.T of women’s tennis. The argument could be made to drop the women and just say she’s the greatest. Just like the Nike #23 sneakers she wore in the finals. In her post match interview she would receive a special gift of #23 Nike sneakers autographed specifically made & delivered to her by the great Michael Jordan. Serena Williams just won her 10th Grand Slam title after the age of 30. She regains her number one overall ranking with this win. It’s not a matter of IF she will catch & pass Margaret Court for the most Grand Slam titles, but WHEN? You should expect the when to come very soon…as in this 2017 season. Enjoy this greatness, because its highly likely that there will never be another like Serena Williams.
