When Jesus died on the cross, he accomplished something truly remarkable. Through his death, he fulfilled the Old Covenant and completed the work that God had given him to do.

Under the Old Covenant, the Israelites were required to follow a set of laws and rituals in order to be in right relationship with God. These laws were given to them through the prophets and were meant to teach them about God’s character and his expectations for their behavior.

However, the Israelites struggled to keep these laws and often fell short of God’s expectations. As a result, they needed a way to atone for their sins and be reconciled to God. This is where the concept of sacrifice came in.

The Old Covenant included a system of sacrifices that the Israelites were required to offer to God in order to atone for their sins. These sacrifices included animals, grain, and other offerings, and were intended to symbolize the Israelites’ commitment to following God’s will and their willingness to pay the price for their wrongdoing.

While these sacrifices were effective in temporarily covering the Israelites’ sins, they were ultimately inadequate to truly reconcile them to God. The sacrifices had to be repeated over and over again, and they never fully addressed the root issue of sin that separated the Israelites from God.

This is where Jesus comes in. When Jesus died on the cross, he fulfilled the Old Covenant and completed the work that God had given him to do. By offering himself as a sacrifice for our sins, he paid the price for our wrongdoing and reconciled us to God once and for all.

Through his death, Jesus became the ultimate sacrifice that fully atoned for our sins and reconciled us to God. And because of this, we no longer need to offer sacrifices or follow the Old Covenant laws in order to be in right relationship with God.

Instead, we can now have a personal relationship with God through Jesus, who is our mediator and advocate. His finished work on the cross allows us to have access to God and to experience his forgiveness and grace.

You see, the finished work of Jesus at the cross is a powerful and significant event in human history. It fulfilled the Old Covenant and completed the work that God had given Jesus to do, reconciling us to God and allowing us to have a personal relationship with him through faith in Jesus.

I’m so thankful God sees Jesus’ righteousness in me…and NOT my own.
