Surveillance

How should one start a blog about how people are being observed through camera and getting their privacy exposed? By using the internet of course! In the current generation, internet is used to share information about people’s lives and they hope that everyone will become interested in what they do every day. They keep secrets and claim something else is true. Sometimes secrets have the right to be known, but we as people tend to keep things secret because we have other’s thoughts feelings and emotion in mind. The world consists of secrets that want to be shared and the secrets that do not. A question for you to think about to think about, is it a good thing for everyone to know everything? If we know everything about someone the thrill and curiosity of trying to get to know them is gone. Surveillance is a big issue to everyone because it is taking over our lives by exposing our privacy and using our technology to get more people to become more dependent on technology.

Circler’s survey is used to connect everyone together by their interest or skills this is how every new member starts to work towards the completion.

When Mae starts to become like the other circlers, she becomes obsessed with this world to the point of not turning off the See Change camera while using the bathroom.

Privacy is something that everyone needs. Don’t you agree? Celebrities do not get a large amount of privacy like the ordinary person would. Their whole life is a broadcast to the whole world without breaking anything in the pattern of today’s media. Could you be able to handle this lifestyle of always having to be watched by the lens of a camera?

In the article “Technological Threats to Privacy and Information Access” Stuart states “Each of these new technologies presented new challenges to users’ privacy and freedom, although the speed of the changes means that possible concerns have been overlooked or downplayed in the rush to embrace the potential of the new technologies”

Each year and generation, technology presents problems of how people are having privacy complaints and more and more secrets are being exposed.

Keeping track of your health is important, but would you be willing to swallow a sensor that keeps track of your information. In the book, Mae greets the doctor after being told she is two weeks late for a beginning

” To Heal We Must Know To Know We Must Share”

Cameras are watching your every move. In the book “The Circle” by David Eggers the cameras are always on, there is not a measure of time when the camera is shut off (they even have the camera on while using the restroom)

What is it like to have your entire life on everyone screens just by the push of a button? Should everyone’s personal matters be on record for everyone to watch at any time? There is no such thing as deleting in the Circle for example ,Francis is recording his and Mae’s conversation in a private place and he won’t delete it.

Francis attempts to scan foster home photos through recognition software to find his foster parents/siblings

Who owns the video?

The Circle watches over everything each circler does. By the use of cameras everywhere, The Circle are able to search for someone just by the touch of the button.

Are we as a population, that dependent on the use of technology? Today technology is stated that this can lead us to the future. Using technology that has and has yet to be created can benefit everyone in a million ways, but what happens if it becomes everyone’s first thought when they wake up or when they go to sleep is to check their phone.

People have different opinions on how we, as people, use technology and book reviews are a good way to express this feeling. In the article “Ring of Power” the author helps to provide insight to another perspective of the characters and problems from someone else.

The problems stated in the article are very relatable today. In the article “A Rebel in Cyberspace, Fighting Collectivism” The author talks about similar concepts of the circle on how the media is being destroyed by the new form of technology and usages in today’s generation. He believes we will continue to be dependent on technology until we are under an attack or a major issue occurs.

Though, this is what you get when you would live in a dystopian society. You become unresponsive to society or too responsive. Always wanting to know what is happening or always wanting to stay in the dark. And since the story is based off of the need for truth and the need to constant surveillance, one can assume that the society in The Circle is based off of the constant need for truth. Not everyone likes secrets or lies. And the characters in The Circle are most definitely people who don’t like them.
