I don’t think this person fully grasps what most people are talking about when they talk about appropriation. Which more often than not includes he lack of value for the PEOPLE who’s culture we wish to share. Ok, you want to wear a headdress — where were you on NODAPL? Marc Jacobs wants to use African fabrics — where are the black models? These things are going to start getting questioned more and more as the violence grows toward people who are fighting for their communities to the tune of silence from these people.
So often a term gets coined in the service of social justice, and then people feel like they need to redefine it in order to idk, have an opinion? Let themselves off the hook? I’m really not here for these selfish retorts that fail to understand the big picture. Sure if you want to wear a kimono, figure it out for yourself — don’t use that desire as an entire public counter argument to a real issue.
Then there’s the sweet way this is written and then the passive aggressive links to more critical pieces. Nope and nope.
