It’s summertime and if you have kids chances are you’re going on a family vacation. If you don’t have kids, chances are you’re going on a vacation. Either way — traveling by road is a thrill on its own and the ride can get real tough making you hungry.. so watch out for these awesome dhabas!
1. Mr. Sanjay Dhaba, Srinagar-Leh Highway
This lone dhaba is 50kms from Srinagar towards Leh on the Srinagar-Leh Highway. The crisp aalo parantha and gobi ki sabzi take you in paradise and this place is always full of people basking in the sun enjoying their refreshing cup of tea. Even though it’s just a concrete shack, Mr. Sanjay makes some concrete taste commitments and follows up!
2. Sukhdev Dhaba, G.T. Road, Murthal — NH1
With its classy looks and well-maintained A.C building, this “dhaba” only started out as an aloo parantha shack. It now serves you with an extraordinary Indian as well as Chinese cuisine! It’s hard to miss this on GT Road and is a much-needed pit stop for thousands of travelers!
3. Grand Lassi Shop, Zirakpur-Patiala Road, NH21
This one is a lassi delight! Serving any paranthas with melting butter and chana (chickpeas) finished with some fresh home-made yogurt, this place is 25kms from Chandigarh and is quite easy to find!
4. Cheetal Grand, Delhi-Dehradun Highway, Near Khatauli
Cheetal Grand is closer on a restaurant side, but it had to be on this list. It is a must-visit if you’re on the highway! From traditional dal, sabzi, chawal and rotis to cold-coffee and ice-creams, this place has the best of it all, attracting thousands and thousands of travelers!
5. Bhajan Tadka Dhaba, Gajraula, NH24
This is probably one of the most picturesque dhabas — neat and clean thatched hay-stacks with an unforgettable ambiance and an even better taste! The khadai everything on the menu is to die for, and if you ever find yourself on NH24, this is your place to be!
6. Sharma Dhaba, Jaipur-Sikar Road
Situated on Jaipur-Sikar road and serving only vegetarian delicacies Sharma Dhaba is sure to make you experience Rajasthan on a plate. This place even offers you a choice of view while eating — either the backside garden or the roadside thrill — it’s your call, and it’s worth it!
7. Ummiya Annapurna, Anand District, Gujrat NH 8
Located on the bypass connecting the New Expressway in Gujrat (technically still NH8), this eatery gives you a rush of rustic flavors, as everything is cooked on wood and a wave of SPICE and CHILLIS. The flavors are mesmerizing, and there aren’t enough reasons to visit this place!
8. Sunny Da Dhaba, Old Mumbai-Pune Highway
If you’re visiting Lonavla via Mumbai-Pune Old Highway, make it a point to stop here to grab a bite because this tinted shack with decorative tables and boxed food makes some of the best tandoori meals as well as our favorite, jalebis!
9. Shere-Punjab Dhaba, Kolkata-Digha Road, NH6
The Shere-Punjab Dhaba situation on the Kolkata-Digha road, also known to be the only dhaba hoisting a Punjab flag in West Bengal, serves some amazing lip smacking Punjabi delicacies. This restaurant-cum-dhaba is a must see if you are ever to be around!
