How Do We Know What “Expensive” Looks Like?
Nicole Dieker

I guessed it in one by picking the one that looked the least like a prom dress to me — it looked way more fashion-y red carpet than I’d expect for a twelfth grader.

(My own prom dress was lovingly sewn by my mom. In retrospect, I’m sure it looked super homemade — though Mom was a lovely seamstress — but I got to pick out exactly what I wanted, it was super cheap, and I think asking Mom to make it for me was one of the most meaningful things I ever did for her. So no regrets.)
