The New York Times recently shared an incredible story of the life choice that many of us would love to make. While working in an office filled with a stifling air filling out millions of boring papers and interacting with people who are as tired of this routine as you are, at least once you certainly have thought about giving up everything to choose a carefree life on some island, or a countryside, or even in the ocean. In this case Captain Tripp Hock will become your role model, a hero that had enough courage to risk and follow his dreams. He had a finance job in New York City when he decided to quit and become a captain of a superyacht.

“At a tender young age, I managed to get myself gored.” he shared a story about his trip to Pamplona. “It was kind of like a wake-up call. We only live once, right? And I’d rather be living in the Caribbean on a sailboat. And so that’s what I did.”

Now he has an experience of 22 years and is currently charged with the 45-meter superyacht, Amore Mio. The boat was built by the Dutch shipyard Heesen, which is famous for its unique approach to building yachts. While most shipyards start the process of building after they receive an order from a perspective buyer, Heesen builds them in advance and has ready-to-sale yachts for those who don’t want to wait.

Captain Tripp has become a real catch for his boss, because he not only loves his job, but also has a great deal of expertise in the field of yacht building and acquisition. He already has experience of working with different shipyards and knows which ones are responsible and honest with their clients. He had a good impression after working with Heesen.

“I’ve worked with a lot with other shipyards where they promise the world, but don’t necessarily deliver,” says Captain Trip. “They’re always late, and though items are quoted cheaper you have to re-do it a lot of the time. But at a yard like Heesen, that all disappears. They deliver every boat on time. I don’t think they’re ever been a day late. Everything is on time. The best example I can give is that in some yards, when a small mistake is made, the guys kind of hide it and hope you don’t see it. Whereas the Dutch guys, the minute you walk on the boat, they go, ‘I have to show you something: This didn’t go quite right, so we’re going to re-do it tomorrow.’ So that’s the experience, that’s the quality that you pay for. They’re perfectionists.”

When Captain Tripp’s boss decided to buy a yacht, Amore Mio was already being built. However, they’ve spent some time for the modifications so that the yacht suits their needs, and it turned out to be perfect for them. While most superyachts consist of 4 levels, they decided to get rid of the upper deck in order to make it much faster. The yacht can reach an impressive speed of 30 knots, which is hardly possible for most superyachts.

“It’s a fantastic boat. It’s really sporty, cool, and fast,” says Captain Tripp. “Because of the absence of the upper deck, the interior volume is quite low. Because of the streamlined shape and layout, we’re like, a pocket rocket. It’s a speedster.”

Sometimes it may seem hard to disrupt your own life, but we believe that the result will surely turn out to be as impressive as this story. Captain Tripp managed to become a dream captain and make a dream team with his boss to build a dream yacht and live a dream life.
