With a Little Help from My Friends

As I’ve mentioned before I love music, and it would be hard to argue that The Beatles aren’t one of the greatest bands of all time. What I’ve noticed in the last few weeks is how much friends are willing to help you in a time of need. So obviously this song came to mind when I was thinking about my article for today.

Real friends

They say that you can count the amount of true friends that you have on one hand, and I would definitely agree. I’m not saying I only have 5 friends, but there are only about 5 of them I can truly count on in times of need. Although I need to be making money since I got laid off, I’m not ready to jump into another career just yet. So I reached out to a couple of friends to see if they have any part time work, and with some luck I’ve ended up with a couple opportunities. They understood I want to take some time to focus on figuring out exactly what I want, but that I had skills they could use in the meantime. There is a potential to make either opportunity into a full time job, but they’re allowing me the time to think about it. It is nice to know that people are looking out for me, especially when even I’m unsure of what’s next.

Sharing is caring

To begin the conversation about working with them, I obviously needed to let them know I got laid off. I wasn’t sure what they were going to say, or if they were going to judge me. To my surprise though they were extremely supportive, telling me it was for the better and not to worry because greater things going to come. I also wouldn’t have known which friends truly cared without sharing what was going on. It wasn’t easy to admit I was laid off considering I’m usually the one to quit, but I’ve realized very quickly that the people who know you best aren’t concerned with what happened. It has also made me more open to share with the rest of the world, and I’ve began making new friends. I now know that anytime something isn’t going the way I would like it to, or that life throws me a curve ball the sooner I share the better off I’ll be.

Like the song says “I get by with a little help from my friends”, and those lyrics couldn’t be any truer. So if you’re having a hard time, or even just need a little pick me up, reach out to those closest to you because as I found out they’ll likely want to help you.

Until Tomorrow
