9 Blogs to Follow to Get Better At Social Media
Finding the right blogs to follow can be hard. These blogs will help you take your social media marketing to the next level.
Just like tools for blogging and managing social media there a literally thousands of bloggers, businesses and influencers to turn to for advice or to learn from. If you’re just getting started with social media, running a business or blogging, then this list will be a good start for people to follow. To make it a little bit easier to read, I’ve broken it down into different topics/social networks.
General Social Media
When I first started out using social media for business, I read a load of blogs that, after looking back, I realised weren’t very good. It took me a while to sort the wheat from the chaff, but now I can use that experience to hep you.
Social Media Examiner
One of the first blogs I started reading regularly was the Social Media Examiner blog. They have influencers from all over social media guest writing to share their best tips. The CEO, Michael Stelzner, also hosts a weekly podcast where they invite guests on to talk about specific marketing and social media topics.
Every year they host Social Media Marketing World, described by Carlos Gil as “the Super Bowl for digital marketing”. Thousands of marketers descend on San Diego to network, listen to/give talks on the best practices and latest advances of social media.
Buffer has a good reason to create good blogs about social media. They want to attract people like you and me to use their service. And it worked. I used Buffer for my scheduling (granted only the free version at the minute) because I was drawn in by their content. They also have lots of useful templates you can use.
Just like Buffer, Hootsuite create great content to draw in potential customers. I’ve just started using Hootsuite for Cuffs & Co and Sock Club UK. They’re a good one-stop for social media in general as they write about all the different platforms, including general marketing advice.
These influencers put a lot of work into their Facebook strategy or sharing tips on how to use Facebook to its full potential.
Chris is the founder of an e-commerce training company, Tecademics. He regularly does Facebook Live video talking about how to use Facebook ads to promote content and find customers. If you’re interested in starting an e-commerce store as well, Tecademics is a great place to look for advice. They have a bunch of free resources as well as some paid resources once you feel it’s worth taking the leap.

CEO of Social Chain, the social media agency, Steven is killing it with Facebook videos at the minute. Following his tips and analysing his Facebook strategy is a surefire way to start to move forward with Facebook.
Steven is also a great person to follow for millennials, as a 24-year-old, he’s sharing some great advice for creating the life you want, but without all the flash that some influencers portray.
Anyone who has been following social media marketing for any length of time will have come across Gary Vee. Between his YouTube and Facebook videos, he’s getting a tremendous amount of attention. Like Steven, just by spending some time watching Gary’s strategy, you can learn a huge amount.
If that wasn’t enough, Gary’s #AskGaryVee show answers questions from everyday people every week. It’s well worth a watch on YouTube, or if you can, keep an eye out for it on Facebook Live and you could get a chance to call into the show and have your question answers.
Last year, I had the pleasure of meeting a bunch of Snapchat influencers at Snaphappen in London. Amongst those was one of my favourite influencers at the minute and also one of the leaders in the world of Snapchat for business.
Carlos grew his following on Snapchat by preaching about hustle and his ‘real talk’. He’s now an experienced speaker on how to use Snapchat to build a brand and he’s regularly putting out great content on YouTube talking about the latest features and updates.

One of the keys to becoming an influencer on a platform is to live and breath it. Madalyn does that with her #TwitterSmarter chat and podcast. She regularly appears at conferences and on other podcasts to talk about how to use Twitter and the amount of free content she puts out is great for someone who wants to take their Twitter to the next level.

Sue shares a huge amount of information on how to make the most of Instagram on her blog and YouTube channel. If you’re getting ready to take your Instagram game to the next level, following Sue’s advice is definitely going to help you get there.
This is by no means an exhaustive list. There will be 100s of more influencers who are very knowledgeable. If you’re just starting out, however, this is a good place to start. Follow these people on the platforms you want to learn more about and spend time-consuming their content. Social media is someone that changes all of the time, so it’s important to keep up to date with the changes.
