Just the tip
And only if it’s NOT plastic, or it’s not going in.
Because 500 million straws are used in the United States EVERY DAY.
And it’s most likely more, because this only equates to about 1.6 per person per day.
Based on this number, that’s 38,000 straws by our 65th birthdays.
But the reality is that it’s probably closer to four or more. Could this be you?
AM: smoothie
NOON: iced coffee
MIDDAY: boba tea
EVENING: one cocktail, two cocktails, three cocktails, more.
It’s no surprise that 8 of the top 10 plastics that wash up on the coasts are plastics related to food & drink.
But did you know that this toxic microplastic is often ingested by sea life and in turn unknowingly winds up on our dinner plates?
Karma isn’t a bitch, she’s a teacher.
Let’s not forget about the seabirds, turtles, seals, sharks and other species are threatened or killed because of plastic soup.
Love beautiful beaches? Same.
Love cocktails? Same.
So let’s love on both by doing without plastic straws.
And if you can’t do without one, get a metal or glass reusable one (which you’d store in a little travel case with other reusable eating utensils that go wherever you go, naturally).
The cool thing to do is care.
The coolest thing you can do is your part to take care of our coastlines.
Be cool.
