Sharing an apartment is a multifaceted journey that can be both demanding and rewarding. Mastering the art of co-living with flatmates is essential to create an atmosphere of harmony and tranquility. To ensure your Alohause coliving experience is truly enriching, here are some valuable tips to embrace and implement alongside your fellow roommates.

Be considerate

Small actions like getting a good pair of headphones to avoid being too noisy and disturbing others, or asking your flatmates before bringing people over, shows consideration and respect towards them. Understanding everybody has their own schedule and being respectful of their sleeping/working/studying hours will make sharing a home easier.

Don’t forget the cleaning

Try to leave everything you use as you would like to find it. Organizing and dividing the cleaning tasks among the roommates is ideal to maintain a clean and enjoyable environment.

Tip: Create a chore chart with your roommies, dividing tasks like vacuuming, taking out the trash, claning the bathroom, sweeping off the dust, or unloading the dishwasher taking turns in different weeks or days.

Communication is key

Although sometimes it may be hard to open up about things that bother you, being honest and assertive will help avoid conflicts before they keep escalating. You can lay down some ground rules since the beginning such as the distribution of the fridge or the cabinets.

Make your bedroom a sanctuary

Your bedroom is a private space and that privacy should be respected by all other roommates. Making your room a comfortable environment that you can personalize and decorate to your taste, as long as it is all removable for the check out date. Being comfortable in your own space is a priority since it will help you focus and relaxed.

Create sustainable habits

Turn off the AC/heater, lights, and other appliances when you leave the apartment. Please note, above-average utility expenses are not covered by the company.

If you’re a smoker, take it outside

This may seem obvious, but it’s important to state. There is no smoking of any kind allowed inside the house.

While Coliving may present some challenges, such as navigating different personalities and maintaining a harmonious environment, the benefits of coliving far outweigh the difficulties. The exchange of cultures, ideas, and support among flatmates enriches daily life and opens doors to new perspectives. By embracing open communication, respect, and a shared commitment to creating a positive living space, coliving can truly transform the way we experience and appreciate our homes.
