How Teachers can act as “Human Library” for Students

In modern time, information acts as an useful tool to keep our-self updated as well as to gain knowledge in a right track. And if we talk about gaining information in schools or colleges, then a place called “library” becomes the best choice for students. In almost every schools or colleges, we come across to see atleast one library. These libraries are considered as useful place for students to collect information's by collecting a wide range of books. But usually reading dry text simply from the books seems to be old fashioned and sometimes it becomes difficult to grab the concept from the books. Yes, we can read the books but we cannot ask anything to book or we cannot make book to interact with us. Imagine, how it will be if a book can talk to you or if it can interact with you. But this can only remain in our imaginations. In this scenario, it becomes necessary to find a place where someone can talk to us on whatever written in books. Now, here the teacher comes in the fray, who can help in overcoming the limitations of a library. Well, a teacher can act as a “human library” for a student who aspire to seek information on a particular topic which he may not get in library books. If the teacher is well updated on all the fronts in which he/she deals with, then a student can utilize the knowledge of a teacher to boost their concept. Restricting the role of a teacher only to lectures are not beneficial, instead it should be extended to interaction to get real benefits. If the teaching approach will remain one sided, then it will be hard to differentiate among library books and teachers. Unfortunately, Indian state of education still follows traditional methodology for teaching, where one sided lectures by the teachers and silence of students creates a gap which result in only memorization of a particular topic instead of understanding it from the core. The need of the time is that every colleges and schools should allocate a specific time for students to get access to the informations available with the teachers who can play the role “human library” from where gathering information will be interesting beside from books. Suppose a teacher have perfect knowledge in the area of programming

then a student should be permitted to borrow him/her for a specific time, say for half an hour to one hour in order to clear the concept of programing and same should be followed for other topics too. Apart from teaching in classroom, a teacher should be ready to devote the time to their students and should function like a “walking library”. Instead of only reading books and teaching from books, if school and colleges follow this new approach of circulating and collecting informations from teachers by making them “human library”,then a skilled force can be produced. The focus should be less on reading from books instead focus should be on learning from teachers because normally we pay more for teachings, less for the books. Rewarding for memorization and writing the same on exam should be stopped and rewarding on the basis of true concept and practicality should be started. There is a need to redefine and reframe the role and responsibility of teachers in society in order to identify our real “human library”.
