Many disparate interests

I’ve always admired people who can write about the same sort of topic every day. Tom Tunguz writes about the SaaS industry. John Gruber writes about Apple.

If you look at my personal blog, I’ve had some good successes with individual articles but there’s no clear trend. The largest article is by far the “$22 standing desk” creation my friend Ryan Witt and I came up with. I also made a big splash showing a video demonstrating how Verizon was throttling Netflix.

But at some point I stopped writing. My interests and energies were scattered and I didn’t see a thread. In the past year there have been so many things I’ve wanted to write about:

Tech

  • Building a router with commodity hardware and PFSense and hooking it to my Centurylink Gigabit Fiber connection.
  • Home automation lessons — specifically in a really old house (hint: all your light switches wont work with home automation switches)
  • Setting up an Unraid server (easy docker containers for Plex)

Startups

  • Scaling a distributed team to 25 people
  • Fundstrapping (and other ways to build a big company)
  • Organizational Health — or how people can be fulfilled and do their best work.

Misc

  • Reviewing the Ergodepot Jarvis Bamboo standing desk
  • Can you use Subaru’s “Eyesight” as autopilot on the freeway?

I’d like to get back in to the groove of writing. If you know any tips other than just starting to write, let me know!
