This infographic is not about reality but about prejudice. And although sometimes both can intersect, to look for (or expect) factual accuracy is to miss the point I’m trying to make. France is atheist, Ireland is Catholic, and in Bulgaria people use sunflower oil. Potatoes are popular in Spain, they are the main ingredient of the Spanish tortilla. Half of Italy swears butter is essential. I could go on forever. Those things only prove how meaningless it is to divide a continent with simple lines. It’s really interesting that with the recent rise of nationalism across Europe people started to take those maps more and more seriously. We used to know how to laugh at ourselves. Now we’re all gloomy and factual, even when it comes to satire.
