Illustrations: Lighthouses of the World

An illustrated series of buildings that used to light stuff up…

From time to time I get a rush of blood to the head to take on a personal project. Be it a small basic product that usually never sees the light of day, or a set of illustrations that tickles my fancy. But for certain, it usually ends up with me obsessing over the subject until I hate the subject and never want to see the subject again. This is one.

My latest subject is ‘Lighthouses of the World’. I’m not sure why I undertook this project, as I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen a real lighthouse before other than on Paw Patrol, but I was always intrigued by how each lighthouse possessed its own totally unique character.

Since creating the collection I’ve found that, for some reason, lighthouses tend resonate with people. People remember being to one, and for some reason love telling me ‘I was there’… like it was some sort of achievement. The comment usually ends with me squinting my eyes and congratulating them.

Ok, enough lighthouses. Like I said at the top, I generally take on a subject and obsess until I hate it. I am yet to see a real life lighthouse and to be honest, having spent so much time looking at pictures of them, I never want to see a real life lighthouse.

Here is a short video showing how I go about creating an illustration for the lighthouse collection. Let me know what you think!

If you want me to illustrate a specfic lighthouse that you have been to, please get in touch, I’ll probably make an excuse as to why I can’t do it though.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed it.
