No one knows if the injured galah was
A wild bird or someone’s pet
He seemed to be in shock
The man and the dog who found him
Took him home to help him heal
Put him in a large outdoor cage
Named him Cracker
Milo was obsessed
Stood by the cage for hours
Sniffing Cracker through the bars
Trying to lick his face
Wagging his tail nonstop
Cracker’s broken wing finally healed
The cage door was opened
The rescuer held his breath as Cracker
Clambered down the outside of the cage
The wagging of Milo’s tail
Quickened
He kissed Cracker when he came into reach
And followed as the bird
Trotted off on a voyage of exploration
Later when Milo curled up in his dog bed
Cracker joined him
Milo tried to hug Cracker with his chin
It looked like the bird was being flattened but
Cracker just squeezed out from under and
Kept going back for more
Milo was so happy
A few weeks later Cracker took off on
A wider voyage of exploration
The rescuer thought the galah had
Returned to the wild
Milo just sat and stared out the window
And grieved
Days later the rescuer found a notice
Posted on a website: Galah Found!
Hoping against hope
The rescuer and Milo went to see
Could it possibly be Cracker?
It was!
Milo and Cracker could not have been more
Ecstatic
