We end up with these people seeking popularity through the creation of situations for the sole purpose of “Ooo! Look at me!! LOOK AT ME!! I’m doing social justice!! Like me! Make me popular! Approve of me! Hear how LOUD I am, I must be right!!!”

There is a famous sentiment in anti-racist activism that says “at the end of the day it’s about the work”, not how loud you rant, not how convincingly you debate, and not how coolly you chop your opponent off at the knees. What ultimately matters is that your words will be viewed as augmenting your specific and meaningful actions, not the other way around, and never simply in place of.

As usual Heath Houston, your assessment here is precise and erudite, demonstrating the ethos of the above sentiment while pointing out that like anywhere, specific mileage around this place often varies. Sometimes wildly.

Thanks for the shout out, by the way. My respect, right back at you.
